BREAKING: How, Why Massive Gas Leakage, Panic Rocked Lagos

Preliminary details have emerged on the massive gas leakages that rocked Ikeja area of Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial capital, on Wednesday, setting jitters down the spines of residents.

Platforms Africa reports that the leakages came from burst gas pipelines at the site of an ongoing construction in Ikeja.

The affected areas are: Computer Village, Ikeja Under Bridge, Awolowo Way, Oba Akran axis and Anifowose area.

It was learnt that one of the caterpillars burst the pipeline during demolition exercise taking place in the area.

The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) has begun evacuation of residents and business owners. It specifically warned residents not to open shops or use open naked fire in order to ignite expsion in the area.

Emergency workers are already on ground to prevent any calamitous reaction.

Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos office, Ibrahim Farinloye confirmed the development to Platforms Africa.

He said: “Residents around Computer Village /Underbridge Awolowo Way and Oba Akran axis, Anifowose Street, Medical Road must not open shops or use open naked fire for safety reasons.

“Distressed alert just received indicates massive leakage of gas pipeline around these areas.

“Let us take utmost safety precautions,” he stated.
